My high school friend, Pam Huber Villari, lives in Cambridge. She graciously invited us over to her sister's house near Boston Common for a night on the rooftop patio. We spent a lovely evening chatting and enjoying cocktails. The view was fabulous. As we packed up for the night, we heard yelling down the street. Pam thought it was college kids returning for the fall. Instead, we found emergency vehicles responding to a fire in a building nearby. Luckily it was contained quickly and no serious injuries were reported. It sure made for an exciting end to the evening though!

The next day, Pam took us on a tour of Boston. We visited the 1st Street Tavern which was in a scene of the movie Good Will Hunting. We would have enjoyed a cold beer on "the set" but it was closed.
Pam dropped us off at Harvard University where we meandered through the campus. A sense of hope and promise filled the air. Fresh-faced high school graduates were everywhere; their parents following behind, both with a bit of joy and apprehension dancing across their faces.
We came across Mike's Pastry in Harvard Square and stopped in for one of their famous canoli. It was so rich and delicious we could only eat half. The remaining half went down well as dessert later that evening!
Pam met us at Mike's and took us to the Harvard Co-op where we wandered through their vast array of merchandise and books. Pam drove us to Bunker Hill before dropping us back in the Seaport District.

Boston is full of culture, arts, and history. One week was not enough time to see everything but we got a good start. We'll be back!
