Great Rivers Kentucky

October 25 - October 28, 2016

When we arrived at Green Turtle Bay we run into Jean and Paul from Bob Tale, who arrived there a few days ahead of us. They invited everyone to the gazebo for Docktales. We had a lovely evening chatting and catching up. We met so many people; Cindy and Andy on sailboat Pisces, Susan and David on the Island Packet Veritas, Mack and Charlie on a Trawler, and the Wilson family of six cruising with four daughters on a Bayliner. It wasn't until after 9:00 that we took our first showers in a week.

We were tired and in need of a break so we decided to stay at the resort for a few days. There is so much to do. Dave has engine maintenance and we have piles of laundry to do. Mystic is filthy from the river run. The new day began with chores. At mid day, we decided to go for a run. We managed to complete five miles; running to the canal that will take us from Lake Barkley to Kentucky Lake and back. We have only been able to get one run a week in since we left Knife River. It is getting harder and harder to complete them. It's not easy to keep up a routine while cruising. We are invited to docktales in the evening but have to decline. We are exhausted and just want to go to sleep. On our last evening at Green Turtle Bay we joined our new friends for temporary tattoos in a pirate theme! The kids loved it but I think the adults loved it even more!

We spend Thursday cleaning Mystic. She has weathered the mighty, muddy Mississippi River, the Ohio and the Cumberland. The water is chocolate brown, unlike the pristine waters of the Great Lakes. She is showing the wear. We biked into Great Rivers and toured Patti's 1880's Settlement. We enjoyed exploring this quaint and beautiful area called The Village Between the Lakes. There is a zoo. Cute shops are being decorated for the holidays with lights and Christmas baubles. This will be a popular place to visit once the decorations are complete. Fern told us that Patti's is known for making the best pork chops. She said, "They are 2 inches thick but you can cut them with your fork."

We feel relaxed and content here but our time to leave is approaching. We need to move south and make our way to the Tom Bigbee waterway. We will be leaving Mystic somewhere along this route to fly to New York City for a couple weeks. Mucho Gusto and Sea Marie will be leaving as well, but we are pretty sure that our time together has ended. We will miss them and the camaraderie we shared with them. Saying goodbye will be bittersweet!

What a great stop for you all. Such a pretty area! I think Patti's Feed and Grain wagon could use a wheelwright, though. ;-) Hugs!

We are often surprised at what we find along the way in places we visit. Our world is chock full of treasures to be explored! We are so lucky to have this opportunity!
