After four days in Cleveland, we were finally able to head west again. The plan was to anchor out near Sandusky about 58 miles to the west. Just in case, Plan B was a ditching at Fairport. Our day was pretty easy with beautiful views of the cliffs and caves that line the shore. The wind was in our face and we heard squall warnings throughout the day. It took 9.5 hours to make it to Sandusky. By the time we passed the Sandusky breakwater we'd decided to go into port. Thoughts of anchoring had been washed away by the long tiring day on the lake.
We'd been to Cedar Point before, during a visit with our Looper friend Henry. He crossed his wake here. Cedar Point is unique in that it is part of an amusement park. There are 17 world class roller coasters, a beach, hotels, a campground and two marinas. Cedar Point is a vacation destination for families. For Henry, it was his home port.
As we approached Sandusky, we could see the park roller coasters and para-sailors for miles. Henry was following us on the tracking app Nebo and sending me texts that warned us about shoaling in the channel. He also sent us information on the marina options.

We decided to stay at Cedar Point Marina. We pulled up to the fuel dock and tied off so we could pay for dockage. They only had 50 amp electric hook up so we had to rent a converter for $20 a night. This brought our slip fee to $100; a bit expensive for our taste but we were glad to be in a slip. The lake got a bit rough over night; anchoring would have been uncomfortable. Mystic and Osimo moved to our assigned slips on the transient docks. Huge power boats kept coming in all afternoon and evening. Before the night was over, the docks were full. Bob and Sue walked up to Famous Dave's for dinner. We were exhausted so we spent a quiet night aboard Mystic. Dave plotted our navigation route to the Ohio Islands and I worked on editing photos. We were asleep by the time the sun set.

In the morning we took a walk around the marina. Boaters do not have access to the amusement park but we made our way around the huge marina grounds. We met Deb and Dave walking their beautiful Great Dane, Ellie, We chatted about the Great Loop and told them our next stop was the Ohio Islands. We'd hoped to go to Put In Bay, a popular Looper stop, but the marina and mooring field appeared to be full. We decided to anchor off of Middle Bass Island instead. Deb told us that the mooring balls at Put In Bay are first come, first serve. That piece of information was crucial for us. We would not have even attempted going into Put In Bay without knowing that we may be able to grab a mooring ball. We thanked them then headed back to Mystic to prepare for another day of travel. With Osimo following, we headed back out into the Lake that wasn't finished with us yet. Our next few days of travel would be challenging.
