We arrived at Apalachicola on Wednesday, April 12th, five days after leaving Mobile. We were making good progress! We'd planned to stay two nights but we'd end up staying for four whole days. The first night, we anchored in the bay across from town. Each day we tried to leave but the bay was too rough, the head wind was too strong. Instead of fighting the elements, we decided to embrace our situation. We docked
Mystic in downtown Apalachicola and set off to explore the town. It turned into a long visit but we enjoyed everything about it. The locals told us that it only takes five days in "Apalach" before you'll never want to leave! We left on the fifth day!

We had a great time, enjoyed delicious seafood and meeting wonderful people, some local and some who came to enjoy the ambiance of life in a small "Old Florida" town. As luck would have it, there is a microbrewery, Oyster City, only a short walk from the docks. They close at 7:00 pm but if you get there by a quarter after you are sure to get served in a plastic cup. They offer free popcorn too!

We ate dinner at Hole in the Wall Cafe, fresh broiled oysters with garlic and parmesan. The Owl Cafe served us a soft shell blue crab sandwich and fried oysters with a dill sauce on the side. We stopped by the local seafood store and picked up fresh (off the boat) shrimp and smoked mullet. On our last morning in town, we ate breakfast at the Apalachicola Coffee Company. The food is all fabulous!

We were able to explore a lot of Apalachicola in the time we were there. It's a photographer's dream location. I took a lot of pictures. Every day, we seemed to discover something new!

The Apalachicola Antique Car and Boat Show was held over the weekend. The town was overflowing with old car enthusiasts. We found out we could have entered
Mystic in the boat show but decided not to. It would mean I'd have to clean...a lot!

There is a cemetery in Apalachicola that is said to be haunted. They have an annual festival at night. We walked through to see it for ourselves. It was old and eerie and not your typical manicured cemetery. We didn't see any ghosts but a sweet black cat was guarding the grounds. We would love to do the midnight tour, especially around Halloween.
I suppose we could look at our stay here as getting "stuck" in Apalachicola. We certainly didn't intend to be there for four days. Like many of our longer stays, things just worked out. We fell in love with this tiny little town and look forward to visiting again!
So many memorable places you've already visited, and yet so many to come. Thank you so much for sharing them with us all. <3 Hugs!
